AUB 111 Painting and Refinishing I

Lecture: 2 Lab: 6 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4
This course introduces the proper procedures for using automotive refinishing equipment and materials in surface preparation and application. Topics include federal, state, and local regulations, personal safety, refinishing equipment and materials, surface preparation, masking, application techniques, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to identify and use proper equipment and materials in refinishing following accepted industry standards.

Pre-requisite(s): Enrollment in the Collision Repair & Refinishing Program.
Co-requisite(s):  DRE 097  or ENG 002  and AUB 121 .
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Identify safety equipment and procedures associated with refinishing by completing I-CAR WKR01.
  2. Create a repair plan based on vehicle refinish analysis.
  3. Demonstrate vehicle refinish removal techniques.
  4. Demonstrate proper surface preparation procedures.
  5. Demonstrate proper set-up and operation of refinishing equipment.
  6. Summarize the major types and parts of a spray gun.
  7. Demonstrate paint code color retrieval techniques.
  8. Demonstrate mixing and application techniques of refinishing materials according to manufacturer’s standards.
