ISC 112 Industrial Safety

Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course introduces the principles of industrial safety. Emphasis is placed on industrial safety and OSHA regulations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of a safe working environment and OSHA compliance.

Course is typically offered in Fall and Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Calculate at 80% accuracy, the economic effect of accidents by using data supplied by the Department of Labor.
  2. Calculate at 80% accuracy, the cost of a Worker’s Compensation claim from actual records and a company history.
  3. Identify five financial losses that can result from accidents when given a real accident scenario.
  4. Identify multiple reasons for an accident given a real accident scenario in an industrial setting.
  5. Describe in a written report, the different jurisdictions of the OSHA, DOT, and EPA that are involved in an industrial setting case study.
  6. Complete a job hazard analysis in an industry approved format while observing a real industrial job task.
  7. Document the priorities of why an OSHA inspection takes place in an industrial setting, the penalties imposed and legalities involved in the inspection process using a template provided by the instructor.
  8. Evaluate ergonomic deficiencies in material handling tasks found in an industrial setting.
