LEX 110 Introduction to Paralegal Study Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course introduces the paralegal profession and the legal system, and an emphasis is placed on the role of professional and legal ethics. Topics include regulations, ethics, case analysis, legal reasoning, career opportunities, professional organizations, terminology and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to explain the role of the paralegal and identify the skills, knowledge, and ethics required of paralegals.
Co-requisite(s): ENG 111 Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Explain the role of the paralegal in legal settings by properly identifying such roles in class exercises.
- Specify the ethical requirements of a paralegal according to the standards set by the North Carolina Bar.
- Demonstrate understanding of both federal and state legal systems by completing role playing exercise when given certain case facts.
- Define basic legal terminology used in classroom glossary.
