LEX 250 Wills, Estates and Trusts Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers various types of wills, trusts, probate, estate administration, and intestacy. Topics include types of wills and execution requirements, caveats and dissents, intestate succession, inventories and accountings, distribution and settlement, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to draft simple wills, prepare estate forms, understand administration of estates including taxation, and explain terms regarding trusts.
Co-requisite(s): LEX 120 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Construct a simple will when given a set of facts.
- Prepare estate forms for a client when given a set of facts.
- Layout administration of an estate including taxation issues in a role play scenario.
- 4Design a trust using a role play scenario.
- Evaluate intestate succession issues using a role play scenario.
- Determine proper will format when given a fact pattern.
