LOG 240 Purchasing Logistics

This course introduces the various aspects of purchasing, and their impact on materials management, supply chain, transportation, and global logistics processes. Emphasis is placed on the different methods of electronic sourcing, negotiating and pricing principles, and on the internal and external considerations associated with international logistics. Upon completion, students should be able to describe and apply the principles and terminology used in procurement including electronic data interchange services, purchasing and logistics systems.

Pre-requisite(s): LOG 110.  
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Course has transfer restrictions - 10 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Evaluate the role of procurement (purchasing) in organizations working individually and in a team environment.
  2. Develop techniques to control quality in the procurement process.
  3. Analyze different techniques to outsource operations appropriately.
  4. Determine options for purchasing goods and services globally.
  5. Compute the total cost of ownership, including a variety of acquisition factors.
  6. Develop negotiation methods to maximize the benefits of a procurement process.
  7.  Assess ethical and social issues in purchasing management using both domestic and global cultures and laws.
