PHM 110 Introduction to Pharmacy Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces pharmacy practice and the technician’s role in a variety of pharmacy settings. Topics include medical terminology and abbreviations, drug delivery systems, law and ethics, prescription and medication orders, and the health care system. Upon completion, students should be able to explain the role of pharmacy technicians, read and interpret drug orders, describe quality assurance, and utilize pharmacy references.
Pre-requisite(s): Enrollment in the Pharmacy Technology Program. Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
- Describe the roles of pharmacy technicians in practice environments.
- Illustrate the medication order process.
- Identify drug names and the new drug application process.
- Identify dosage forms and routes of administration in relation to body systems.
- Identify governmental agencies and laws.
- Discuss the importance of safety in the workplace.
- Describe legal classifications of medicinal products.
