SST 140 Green Building & Design Concepts Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course is designed to introduce the student to sustainable building design and construction principles and practices. Topics include sustainable building rating systems and certifications, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable building materials and water use. Upon completion, students should be able to identify the principles and practices of sustainable building design and construction.
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Describe sustainable design philosophies, products, and procedures.
- Explain global, social, and cultural views regarding sustainable design.
- Describe how the LEED Green Building evaluation system influences the design development and construction process and materials.
- Describe building orientation and its effect on sustainability.
- Identify sustainable construction methods.
- Discuss the relationship between the structure of matter and the material world.
