SUR 134 Surgical Procedures II Lecture: 5 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 5 This course provides a comprehensive study of intermediate and advanced surgical specialties that students are exposed to in the second clinical rotation. Emphasis is placed on related surgical anatomy, pathology, and procedures that enhance theoretical knowledge of patient care, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to correlate, integrate, and apply theoretical knowledge of the course topics to the clinical operative environment.
Pre-requisite(s): SUR 122 and SUR 123 . Co-requisite(s): SUR 135 . Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Correlate surgical technology principles with perioperative care of intermediate and advanced surgical specialty procedures.
- Integrate knowledge of specialty equipment and positioning devices in planning perioperative care for intermediate and advanced surgical specialty procedures.
- Apply principles for postoperative patient care management for intermediate and advanced surgical specialties.
