HIT 280 HIM Capstone Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course integrates application of knowledge and skills learned in prior HIT courses and is designed to prepare students for professional roles in HIM and promote ethical standards of practice. Emphasis is placed on AHIMA domains and professional competencies, career services and preparation for the National Certification exam. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competency in the entry-level domains and subdomains of health information management.
Pre-requisite(s): HIT 211 Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Apply all principles and knowledge from AHIMA’s domains, tasks, and subtasks for HIT by scoring 75% or higher on the HIT Mock Exam administered at the conclusion of this course. (1-VI.)
- Demonstrate acceptable entry-level ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding by scoring 70% or higher on the HIT Mock Exam. (IV.1.)
- Demonstrate professional behaviors and interpersonal communication.(VI.1)
- Comply with ethical standards and professional values in the workplace. (VI.1,VI.7)
- Identify organizational policies and procedures utilized in a healthcare facility.(VI.1)
- Demonstrate effective interview and job search techniques through the use of AHIMA and college career resources. (VI.3).
