PED 125 Self-Defense: Beginning Lecture: 0 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1 This course is designed to aid students in developing rudimentary skills in self-defense. Emphasis is placed on stances, blocks, punches, and kicks as well as non-physical means of self-defense. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate basic self-defense techniques of a physical and non-physical nature.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Establish a defensive preventative attitude and view of one’s lifestyle.
- Identify potentially dangerous situations.
- Employ awareness skills necessary for the possibility of an attack.
- Demonstrate basic self-defense techniques from various disciplines.
- Recognize the importance of self-confidence, physical conditioning, and affirmative action in the event of an assault.
