HSE 240 Issues in Client Services Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces systems of professional standards, values, and issues in the helping professions. Topics include confidentiality, assessment of personal values, professional responsibilities, competencies, and ethics relative to multicultural counseling and research. Upon completion, students should be able to understand and discuss multiple ethical issues applicable to counseling and apply various decision-making models to current issues.
Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Describe the principles of confidentiality.
- Apply ethical standards to given case studies as outlined by the National Organization for Human Services/Council for Standards in Human Service Education.
- Describe the current research issues within the human services field.
- Examine personal values and professional responsibilities of working in the human services field relative to multiculturalism.
- Develop a comprehensive portfolio assignment that demonstrates professional growth.
