HYD 180 Fluid Power in Automation Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces the basic components and functions of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their application to automated machinery. Topics include standard symbols, compressors, control valves, control circuits, actuators, maintenance procedures, switching and control devices as applied to automated machinery. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the operation of hydraulic fluid and compressed air and vacuum systems including design, troubleshooting, and applications.
Course is typically offered in Fall Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Identify the cause of hydraulic and pneumatic faults in a halted automation system.
- Select the most effective troubleshooting method to use in a faulted automated pneumatic and hydraulic system.
- Compare team member viewpoints to determine the fault in a halted automation system.
- Discuss possible solutions to correct a successfully identified fault in a halted automated system.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the operation of pneumatic, hydraulic and vacuum systems in an automation system.
