ARC 240 Site Planning

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the principles of site planning, grading plans, and earthwork calculations. Topics include site analysis, site work, site utilities, cut and fill, soil erosion control and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to prepare site development plans and details and perform cut and fill calculations.

Pre-requisite(s): C or better in ARC 114  and ARC 111  or LAR 111.
Co-requisite(s): ARC 213 .
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Analyze a site with regard to land use, zoning, pedestrian, and traffic circulation.
  2. Apply architectural programming to site planning.
  3. Apply the principals of site engineering to a small site development project.
  4. Interpret topography data, contours, and grading with regard to site conditions and earthwork calculations.
  5. Identify environmental impacts implicitly or directly influenced by land development.
  6. Analyze resources associated with a site in terms of their natural, cultural, and aesthetic factors.
  7. Describe the importance of vegetation as it relates to soil erosion.
  8. Apply the principles of site landscaping in order to provide buffer zones, protection from wind, and space definitions.
