This course is a survey of American history from the Civil War era to the present. Topics include industrialization, immigration, the Great Depression, the major American wars, the Cold War, and social conflict. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in American history since the Civil War.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.

Pre-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Analyze selected major developments, trends, and issues related to the creation of industrial America (to 1900).
Explain selected major developments, trends, and issues related to the consolidation of modern America as an industrial and international power (to 1945).
Interpret selected major developments, trends, and issues related to the “American Age” (1945-present).
Evaluate major events, trends, and people for the time period covered by the course.
Demonstrate essential historical skills by identifying appropriate sources, selecting and prioritizing the information, and synthesizing a logical response for selected historical issues raised in the course.
Integrate multiple source materials in the analysis of history.
