MED 122 Medical Terminology II Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course is the second in a series of medical terminology courses. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Upon completion, students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.
Pre-requisite(s): MED 121 . Course is typically offered in Spring and Summer. Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Define the roles of the basic word parts including prefixes, suffixes, word roots and combining forms for each of the body systems covered in this class.
- Interpret abbreviations for common signs, symptoms, medical conditions, diagnostic testing and therapeutic procedures involving each of the body systems covered in this class.
- Analyze compound terms using various word parts in each of the body systems covered in this class.
- Define medical terms associated will all the body systems covered in this class with proper pronunciation and spelling.
- Describe body planes, cavities, quadrants, regions, directional terms, body systems, biological conditions and medical specialties.
- Locate the associated organs in each body system that are covered in this class.
- Implement the rules of medical terminology when alternating between plural and singular forms.
