Associate in Arts to Bachelor of Science/Arts in History Pathway

The two-year program listed below is designed to meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts transfer degree from GTCC and prepare a student for obtaining a Bachelor of Science/Arts in History at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Guilford College.

However, students from GTCC seeking a baccalaureate degree may also transfer to other institutions. These institutions may require different courses within the various areas of General Education. Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after GTCC should consult with the institution they will be attending, the faculty advisor and/or the GTCC Student Success Center.

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

  • Use various strategies to acquire new information in the discipline of history.
  • Analyze major social, political, cultural, philosophical, and religious trends presented in the field of history.
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze varying historical perspectives.
  • Use various tools and methods to evaluate sources in historical research.

Notes:


Guilford College only accepts two classes at the 100-level and requires HIS 131 , HIS 132 , HIS 221 , and HIS 236 . NC A&T requires either HIS 111  or HIS 112 .

2 College requires ART 111 .

MAT 143 , MAT 152 , MAT 171  (UNCC and NC A&T require 6 hours; ASU requires 4 hours; Guilford College requires MAT 152 )

POL 120 , PSY 150 , SOC 210 , ECO 251 , or ECO 252  (UNCC requires only 3 hours; NC A&T requires POL 120  and ECO 252 )

UNCG requires 6-7. Guilford College requires 4 hours in BIO, CHM, or PHY.  ASU requires 8 hours from one theme. NC A&T requires 7 hours (BIO 110  recommended). UNCC requires 7 hours (one lab course and one with no lab). 

6 Recommended: HIS 221 , HIS 227 , HIS 236 , POL 120 , POL 220 . (Guilford College requires ENG 273 ; NC A&T requires HIS 221 ; ASU requires 2 hours PE)
