POL 220 International Relations Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides a study of the effects of ideologies, trade, armaments, and alliances on relations among nation-states. Emphasis is placed on regional and global cooperation and conflict, economic development, trade, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions such as the World Court and UN. Upon completion, students should be able to identify and discuss major international relationships, institutions, and problems.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences.
Pre-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002 Course is typically offered in Fall Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the basic actors, institutions, and problems involved in international relations.
- Summarize knowledge of constraints placed on actors by institutions and historical events.
- Explain basic paradigms used in the study and research of international relations.
- Integrate various methodological approaches and modes of analysis in the study and research of international relations.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of different international political systems by examining their strengths and weaknesses.
