Associate in Arts to Bachelor of Science/Arts in Political Science Pathway

The two-year program listed below is designed to meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts transfer degree from GTCC and prepare a student for obtaining a Bachelor of Science/Arts in Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

However, students from GTCC seeking a baccalaureate degree may also transfer to other institutions. These institutions may require different courses within the various areas of General Education. Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after GTCC should consult with the institution they will be attending, the faculty advisor and/or the GTCC Student Success Center.

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

  • Use various strategies to acquire new information in the discipline of Political Science.
  • Analyze major social, political, cultural, and philosophical trends presented in the field of Political Science.
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze varying political perspectives.
  • Use various tools and methods to evaluate sources in research related to political economy.

Notes:


1 UNCG, UNCC, ASU, and UNCW require 4 semesters of foreign language. NC A&T requires 2 semesters.

2 UNCG requires a UGETC math (3-4). UNCC requires MAT-171 and MAT-171A (4) and MAT-152 (4). ASU requires a UGETC MAT and MAT-152. UNCW requires two Math UGETCs (3-4 each). A&T requires MAT-171 and MAT-171A (4) and MAT-172 and MAT-172A (4).  If taking MAT-143 in Semester 2, student must take 1-2 additional hours to complete the 60-hr Associate in Arts.

3 UNCG, UNCC, UNCW require one UGETC Natural Science (4). ASU requires 2 UGETC Natural Sciences (8). A&T requires AST-151 and AST-151A or PHY-110 and PHY 110A (4).

4 ASU requires two hours of PED and should be taken here in place of HIS-227. If also taking MAT-143 in Semester 2, students transferring to ASU must take two additional hours to complete the 60-hr Associate in Arts.
