PHM 111 Pharmacy Practice I Lecture: 3 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course provides instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics include drug packaging and labeling, out-patient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a variety of pharmacy settings.
Pre-requisite(s): Enrollment in the Pharmacy Technology Program. Co-requisite(s): PHM 110 and PHM 115 . Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Analyze drug orders.
- Perform point of care testing which assists the pharmacist in assessing a patient’s clinical status.
- Manage drug inventory.
- Identify controlled substances dispensed in the pharmacy.
- Describe laws that pertain to controlled substances.
- Complete the medication order fill process from start to finish.
