Graduation
Academic Advisors and Coaches and other college staff are available to provide academic guidance, but students have final responsibility for satisfying their program requirements.
Course Substitution
Students should complete all courses required for their program. To substitute a course for a program requirement, students must get the approval of their advisor and the appropriate department and division chairs, who will file the Course Substitution form with the Records Office.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for graduation, a student must have completed all program requirements, have a final program grade point average of at least a 2.0 and not owe the college any tuition, fees, or fines. The student must have earned at least one-fourth of the required program credit hours at GTCC and have taken at least one-third of the major course work required for graduation at GTCC. The student’s last semester of course work must be completed at GTCC.
Reverse Transfer
Reverse transfer is the process of awarding an associate degree for completing a portion of your degree requirements at GTCC and the remaining requirements at a participating college or university. When combined, your credits completed at GTCC and your eligible credits transferred from your university meet the degree and graduation requirements at GTCC.
To be eligible to participate in the Reverse Transfer program, you must:
- · Complete at least 25 percent (16 college-level credit hours) at GTCC
- · Complete the remaining credits at a participating college or university
- · Opt-in with the participating college or university to provide GTCC with twice yearly updates of your academic credits.
Additional information on Reverse Transfer is available on the Records Reverse Transfer website.
Graduation Application
Students must submit an application for graduation to receive their printed credential, regardless of whether they attend the graduation ceremony. Before applying, students should meet with their faculty advisor to ensure they have completed all requirements for graduation.
Graduation applications are available online. Students must return their completed application to records@gtcc.edu by the application deadline. The Registrar’s staff will compile the documents and certify that students are eligible to graduate after final grades have been posted.
Commencement Ceremony
A commencement ceremony is held every year at the end of the spring term. The college encourages all students who will graduate in the academic year to attend the commencement ceremony, even if course work is not completed by spring term, but will be completed in the following summer term. Students will receive their credential by mail from Parchment following Commencement.
