AET 130 Aviation Engine Electrical Sys

This course introduces students to the study of engine electrical systems and instruments used on turbine-powered and reciprocating engine-powered aircraft. Topics emphasize mechanical power generating and engine starting systems, including hands-on experience with removal, installation, disassembly, troubleshooting, and adjustment of starting, regulating, and monitoring devices. Upon completion, students should be able to evaluate a complete aircraft engine electrical system using provided schematics and determine corrective actions when necessary.

Pre-requisite(s): AET 110 and AET 122.
Course is typically offered in Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At successful completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

Evaluate a complete aircraft electrical system using provided schematics and determine corrective actions that will satisfy the FAA standards for aircraft electrical system certification.
Troubleshoot an aircraft electrical system for faults, identify the fault and explain the corrective action that will be taken in order to return the aircraft to an airworthy condition.
Disassemble, identify, inspect, test, reassemble and bench test a generator and alternator that will be installed on a reciprocating engine.
