ATR 112 Introduction to Automation

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the basic principles of automated systems and describes the tasks that technicians perform on the job. Topics include the history, development, and current applications of robots and automated systems including their configuration, operation, components, and controls. Upon completion, students should be able to understand the basic concepts of automation and robotic systems.

Course is typically offered in Spring.

At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Explain how automation and robotics are used in a manufacturing setting.
  2. Summarize ways automation is used in manufacturing systems in a written report.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the manufacturing process.
