AUT 141A Suspension & Steering Lab

Lecture: 0 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1
This course is an optional lab to be used as an alternative to co-op placement in meeting the NATEF standards for total hours. Topics include manual and power steering systems and standard and electronically controlled suspension and steering systems. Upon completion, students should be able to service and repair steering and suspension components, check and adjust alignment angles, repair tires, and balance wheels.

Co-requisite(s): AUT 141 .

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Diagnose components of electronically controlled steering and suspension systems, using a scan tool, to determine necessary action for repair(s).
  2. Replace power steering pump.
  3. Replace a tire, to include mounting and balancing, within 20 minutes on vehicle assigned by instructor.
  4. Perform alignment angle measurements within 30 minutes with equipment and vehicle assigned by the instructor.
  5. Perform Tire Pressure Monitoring System re-learn procedure on vehicle(s) assigned by instructor.
