BUS 121 Business Math

This course covers fundamental mathematical operations and their application to business problems. Topics include payroll, pricing, interest and discount, commission, taxes, and other pertinent uses of mathematics in the field of business. Upon completion, students should be able to apply mathematical concepts to business.

Pre-requisite(s): MAT 003  (P2 grade)
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Course has transfer restrictions - 10 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Reconcile checking account data.
  2. Calculate payroll accurately.
  3. Determine markups/markdowns accurately in a business.
  4. Calculate the value of merchandise inventories using a variety of methods.
  5. Use time-value-of money calculations appropriately for a variety of business transactions.
  6. Calculate book value of assets using depreciation methods.
