BUS 137 Principles of Management

This course is designed to be an overview of the major functions of management. Emphasis is placed on planning, organizing, controlling, directing, and communicating. Upon completion, students should be able to work as contributing members of a team utilizing these functions of management.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

Pre-requisite(s): DRE 098  or ENG 002  (P2 grade)
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Define the various roles, functions, and levels of management.
  2. Describe the four major management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling
  3. Evaluate developments in the work environment that impact managers and management practice.
  4. Employ communication skills that are compatible with business standards.
  5. Construct a portfolio of your skills, strengths, characteristics, and preferences regarding organizational culture and structure.
