BUS 153 Human Resource Management

This course introduces the functions of personnel/human resource management within an organization. Topics include equal opportunity and the legal environment, recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, employee development, compensation planning, and employee relations. Upon completion, students should be able to anticipate and resolve human resource concerns.

Course is typically offered in Spring.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Point out the basic human resource functions needed to make a business effective.
  2. Differentiate between the various methods used to evaluate employees’ performance.
  3. Apply basic employment laws and regulations effectively in a work environment.
  4. Design an effective selection process for a specific job.
  5. Differentiate between the various types of interview techniques.
  6. Analyze activities that may create employee dissatisfaction and how it affects employee behavior.
