CEG 111 Introduction to GIS and GNSS

Lecture: 2 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4
This course introduces the methods and techniques used in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) professions. Emphasis is placed on data collection and mapping using GIS software. Upon completion, students should be able to use GNSS technologies to collect field data and create GIS maps.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Course has transfer restrictions - 20 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Identify basic principles of satellite positioning technology.
  2. Use GNSS technology to collect field data.
  3. Demonstrate transfer of field data to GIS maps.
  4. Develop and exhibit skills in use of GIS software.
  5. Create GIS maps.
  6. Arrange files and data sets for GIS mapping projects.
