CIV 215 Highway Technology

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the essential elements of roadway components and design. Topics include subgrade and pavement construction, roadway drawings and details, traffic analysis, geometric design and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret roadway details and specifications, and produce street and highway construction drawings.

Pre-requisite(s): CEG 115 or EGR 115   and MAT 121  or MAT 171 
Course is typically offered in Fall.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Develop and produce street and Roadway sections.
  2. Demonstrate the use of geometric design principles.
  3. Demonstrate the use of computer drafting (CAD) to create highway construction details.
  4. Use online resources from NCDOT standards to develop standard details.
  5. Interpret specifications for highway construction.
