CJC 112 Criminology

Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces deviant behavior as it relates to criminal activity. Topics include theories of crime causation; statistical analysis of criminal behavior; past, present, and future social control initiatives; and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to explain and discuss various theories of crime causation and societal response.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine the role of Criminology with regards to applications of criminal law and motivations for criminal behavior.
  2. Evaluate the development of Rational Choice and Biological Trait theories in explaining criminal behavior.
  3. Analyze the partitions of socialization and their effects on crime and aberrant behavior.
  4. Assess the interaction between society and the Conflict theory that would produce actions deemed criminal.
  5. Examine the root causes of violent behavior in our society. 6. Examine the problems caused in society by “victimless” or public order crimes.
