CJC 161 Introduction to Homeland Security

This course introduces the historical, organizational and practical aspects of Homeland Security. Topics include a historic overview, definitions and concepts, organizational structure, communications, technology, mitigation, prevention and preparedness, response and recovery, and the future of Homeland Security. Upon completion, students should be able to explain essential characteristics of terrorism and Homeland Security, and define roles, functions and interdependency between agencies.

Course is typically offered in Spring.

At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Evaluate various aspects of Terrorism and Homeland Security.
  2. Analyze the characteristics and theories of Terrorism and Homeland Security.
  3. Compare National and International Laws related to Terrorism.
  4. Outline the essential characteristics of national and international acts of terrorism.
  5. Differentiate between ethical and unethical attitudes and actions regarding the execution of Homeland Security practices.
