CJC 212 Ethics & Community Relations

This course covers ethical considerations and accepted standards applicable to criminal justice organizations and professionals. Topics include ethical systems; social change, values, and norms; cultural diversity; citizen involvement in criminal justice issues; and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to apply ethical considerations to the decision-making process in identifiable criminal justice situations.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Apply moral and ethical theories/codes to real-life ethical dilemmas as presented in current articles and scenarios.
  2. Differentiate between the major ethical issues in the Criminal Justice System (CJS) and its influence on the public using situations and scenarios.
  3. Apply appropriate ethical philosophies to differing CJS scenarios.
  4. Explain how ethics and integrity are associated with managing risks in the CJS.
  5. Assess how current controversies within the CJS lay the foundation for the future.
  6. Group ethical dilemmas moral and ethical theories and codes.
