CJC 212 Ethics & Community Relations Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers ethical considerations and accepted standards applicable to criminal justice organizations and professionals. Topics include ethical systems; social change, values, and norms; cultural diversity; citizen involvement in criminal justice issues; and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to apply ethical considerations to the decision-making process in identifiable criminal justice situations.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Apply moral and ethical theories/codes to real-life ethical dilemmas as presented in current articles and scenarios.
- Differentiate between the major ethical issues in the Criminal Justice System (CJS) and its influence on the public using situations and scenarios.
- Apply appropriate ethical philosophies to differing CJS scenarios.
- Explain how ethics and integrity are associated with managing risks in the CJS.
- Assess how current controversies within the CJS lay the foundation for the future.
- Group ethical dilemmas moral and ethical theories and codes.
