CJC 225 Crisis Intervention

This course introduces critical incident intervention and management techniques as they apply to operational criminal justice practitioners. Emphasis is placed on the victim/offender situation as well as job-related high stress, dangerous, or problem-solving citizen contacts. Upon completion, students should be able to provide insightful analysis of emotional, violent, drug-induced, and other critical and/or stressful incidents that require field analysis and/or resolution.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Explain the skills necessary to diffuse and stabilize a crisis situation.
  2. Analyze responses to trauma by victims.
  3. Describe strategies for crisis intervention in scenarios involving various types of crises.
  4. Discuss interventions to prevent vicarious trauma.
