CMT 218 Human Relations Issues

This course provides instruction on human relations issues as they relate to construction project supervision. Topics include relationships, human behavior, project staffing issues, teamwork, effective communication networks, laws and regulations, and identifying and responding to conflict, crisis, and discipline. Upon completion, the student will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of human relations in the success of a construction project.

Pre-requisite(s): CMT 210.  
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Recognize how our beliefs about the characteristics of our workers determines the style of supervision we use.
  2. Identify the most basic concepts of human behavior.
  3. Demonstrate how the perceived needs and wants affects your expectations and those of the crew.
  4. Illustrate how the project environment affects the human side of the project.
  5. Assess your role when it comes to staffing the project with respect to applicable laws and support activities.
  6. Manage the types of teams to the importance of your project success.
  7. Describe the importance of effective communication skills for project success.
  8. Demonstrate appropriate supervisor techniques to conflict, crisis, and discipline problems.
  9. Illustrate how laws and regulations affect the project.

Describe how to build positive relationships between groups associated with the project.
