COS 224 Trichology and Chemistry

Lecture: 1 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course is a study of hair and the interaction of applied chemicals. Emphasis is placed on pH actions and the reactions and effects of chemical ingredients. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of chemical terminology, pH testing, and chemical reactions on hair.

Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring (when offered).

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Characterize hair’s chemical compositions.
  2. Distinguish the properties and classifications of matter.
  3. Determine the effects of potential hydrogen.
  4. Explain the potential effects from the ingredients used in hair care products.
