FIP 276 Managing Fire Services

This course provides an overview of fire department operative services referenced in NFPA standard 1021. Topics include finance, staffing, equipment, code enforcement, management information, specialized services, legal issues, planning, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to understand concepts and apply fire department management and operations principles.

Course is typically offered in Fall.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine the overview of fire service managers.
  2. Demonstrate effective written communication skills.
  3. Demonstrate effective oral communication skills.
  4. Explain the legal issues faced by fire service managers.
  5. Evaluate the fire service manager’s role in managing financial resources.
  6. Summarize the fire service manager’s role regarding health and safety.
