HMT 110 Introduction to Healthcare Management

This course introduces the functions, practices, organizational structures, and professional issues in healthcare management. Emphasis is placed on planning, controlling, directing, and communicating within health and human services organizations. Upon completion, students should be able to apply the concepts of management within a healthcare service environment.

Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Assess the characteristics of the U.S. healthcare system.
  2. Explore the U.S. healthcare system and the forces that influence its organization.
  3. Distinguish the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals, including management.
  4. Apply quality assurance principles utilized in the provision of health services.
  5. Appraise major trends affecting the delivery of health services.
  6. Interpret the interactive relationship between healthcare cost, access, and quality.
