HRM 135 Facilities Management

This course introduces the basic elements of planning and designing hospitality facilities including environmental impacts, maintenance, and upkeep. Topics include equipment and plant preventive maintenance, engineering, interior design, space utilization, remodeling and expansion, and traffic and work flow patterns. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the planning, design, national certification, and maintenance of hospitality physical plants and equipment.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Develop a plan for routine maintenance in a hospitality facility.
  2. Design a hospitality facility that identifies and adheres to all local, state and national building codes, while addressing current industry standards.
  3. Complete the American Hotel & Lodging Association facility management test for certification in Facilities Management.
