HUM 161 Advanced Film Studies

This course provides an advanced study of film art and production, building on skills learned in HUM 160.  Topics include advanced film production techniques, film genres, examination of master directors’ styles, and the relation of film to culture. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize and critically analyze advanced elements of film production.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts.

Pre-requisite(s): HUM 160.  
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Apply film terminology and concepts to specific films orally and/or in writing.
  2. Analyze individual scenes from a film to use as evidence of how the film works as a whole.
  3. Defend a film interpretation including its historical context and individual style.
