MAC 114 Introduction to Metrology Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course introduces the care and use of precision measuring instruments. Emphasis is placed on the inspection of machine parts and use of a wide variety of measuring instruments. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the correct use of measuring instruments.
Co-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002 and MAT 003 (P2 grade) Course is typically offered in Fall and Summer. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Measure with a 6” fractional ruler to a tolerance of +/-1/64”
- Measure with a 6” decimal ruler to a tolerance of +/-.010”
- Measure with a 1” micrometer to a tolerance of +/-.001”
- Measure with a 6” dial caliper to a tolerance of +/-.002”
- Measure with a vernier scale to a tolerance of +/-.002”
- Measure with a 5” sine bar to a tolerance of +/- 15 minutes.
- Measure with a Universal Bevel vernier Protractor to a tolerance of +/-1degree.
