MAC 151 Machining Calculations

Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course introduces basic calculations as they relate to machining occupations. Emphasis is placed on basic calculations and their applications in the machine shop. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic shop calculations.

Co-requisite(s): DRE 097  or ENG 002  and MAT 003  (P2 grade)
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Calculate fractional answers on a written test using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  2. Calculate decimal answers on a written test using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  3. Calculate fraction to decimal equivalence on a written test.
  4. Calculate speed and feeds for given RPM’s using the formula on a written test.
  5. Calculate thread pitch using the formula on a written test.
  6. Calculate tap drill size using the formula and/or chart on a written test.
  7. Determine location of holes on a bolt circle using the Cartesian Coordinate System on a written test.
