MEC 110 Introduction to CAD/CAM

Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course introduces CAD/CAM. Emphasis is placed on transferring part geometry from CAD to CAM for the development of a CNC-ready program. Upon completion, students should be able to use CAD/CAM software to produce a CNC program.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Create necessary part geometry using a CAD system to save as a data exchange file.
  2. Create tool path boundaries for turning and milling.
  3. Setup machine operations with acceptable feeds and speeds for the given material. +/-10% tolerance.
  4. Create a CNC program using a CAM system to save as a Numerical Control (NC) file.
  5. Create a machined part from the CAMMED NC file.
