MED 130 Administrative Office Procedures I

This course introduces medical office administrative procedures. Topics include appointment processing, written and oral communications, medical records, patient orientation, and safety. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic administrative skills within the medical environment.

Pre-requisite(s): Admission to the Medical Assisting Program.
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using proper etiquette and office software in role play scenarios and written exams.
  2. Document medical records for permanent files of evaluation and treatment of patients in lab exercises and written exams within a simulated medical office.
  3. Achieve in simulated medical office an 80% or greater on final administrative procedural competency. (limited to one attempt)
