MED 264 Medical Assisting Overview

Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course provides an overview of the complete medical assisting curriculum. Emphasis is placed on all facets of medical assisting pertinent to administrative, laboratory, and clinical procedures performed in the medical environment. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the areas covered on the national certification examination for medical assistants.

Pre-requisite(s): Admission in the Medical Assisting Program.
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Demonstrate administrative, laboratory and clinical procedures utilized in a physician’s office as demonstrated on written evaluation.
  2. Improve score from Pre- simulated CMA Exam by achieving a 70% or higher score on the Post-simulated CMA exam.
