MUS 141 Ensemble I

This course provides an opportunity to perform in any combination of instrumental, vocal, or keyboard groups of two or more. Emphasis is placed on the development of performance skills and the study of a variety of styles and periods of ensemble literature. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills needed to participate in ensemble playing leading to performance.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

Pre-requisite(s): Audition.
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Demonstrate skills in embouchure and tone production, playing in tune, articulation, balance/blending within an ensemble by preparing songs that will lead to an end-of-the-semester performance.
  2. Use musical terms and symbols as encountered in ensemble literature through class rehearsals, group discussion, and sectional practice.
  3. Interpret a variety of musical styles through dialogue, rehearsal, and performance.
  4. Exercise proper stage deportment in concert settings through actual performance.
