MUS 151 Class Music I

This course provides group instruction in skills and techniques of the particular instrument or voice for those with little or no previous experience. Emphasis is placed on techniques and styles and the exploration and study of appropriate literature. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the studied skills and repertoire through performance. Colleges may use a letter suffix to designate a specific instrument or voice, for example MUS 151P for piano.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Demonstrate proper body, hand, and finger usage.
  2. Identify all notes/parts of the piano (bass and treble staves).
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of basic simple meters and rhythms.
  4. Play one-octave scales in C, G, and F, ascending/descending with hands together.
  5. Play I, IV and V7 cadences in C, G, and F. 6. Interpret Italian musical terms.
