NET 125 Networking Basics Lecture: 1 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces the networking field. Emphasis is placed on network terminology and protocols, local-area networks, wide-area networks, OSI model, cabling, router programming, Ethernet, IP addressing, and network standards. Upon completion, students should be able to perform tasks related to networking mathematics, terminology, and models, media, Ethernet, subnetting, and TCP/IP Protocols.
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Course has transfer restrictions - 10 years
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Define network terminology.
- Explain network communications using the OSI model.
- Solve IPv4 and IPv6 addressing problems.
- Apply a basic configuration to a router and a switch.
- Use subnetting and VLSM for network addressing.
