AUB 141 Mechanical & Electrical Components I Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers the basic principles of automotive mechanical and electrical components. Topics include personal and environmental safety and suspension and steering, electrical, brake, heating and air-conditioning, cooling, drive train, and restraint systems. Upon completion, students should be able to identify system components and perform basic system diagnostic checks and/or repairs according to industry standards.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Diagnose improper operation of brake systems using manufacturers’ service information and recommended equipment.
- Demonstrate bleeding of the brake hydraulic system.
- Demonstrate refinishing of a brake rotor to a specific final rotor thickness using recommended equipment and manufacturers’ service information.
- Perform battery load test using recommended test equipment.
- Perform charging system test on any vehicle selected by the instructor.
- Evaluate suspension and steering system concerns to determine necessary action for repair(s).
- Perform pre-alignment inspection, including vehicle ride height, to determine necessary action for repair(s).
- Replace a tire, to include mounting and balancing on a vehicle assigned by instructor.
- Repair a broken electrical wire.
