AUB 141 Mechanical & Electrical Components I

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the basic principles of automotive mechanical and electrical components. Topics include personal and environmental safety and suspension and steering, electrical, brake, heating and air-conditioning, cooling, drive train, and restraint systems. Upon completion, students should be able to identify system components and perform basic system diagnostic checks and/or repairs according to industry standards.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 .
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Diagnose improper operation of brake systems using manufacturers’ service information and recommended equipment.
  2. Demonstrate bleeding of the brake hydraulic system.
  3. Demonstrate refinishing of a brake rotor to a specific final rotor thickness using recommended equipment and manufacturers’ service information.
  4. Perform battery load test using recommended test equipment.
  5. Perform charging system test on any vehicle selected by the instructor.
  6. Evaluate suspension and steering system concerns to determine necessary action for repair(s).
  7. Perform pre-alignment inspection, including vehicle ride height, to determine necessary action for repair(s).
  8. Replace a tire, to include mounting and balancing on a vehicle assigned by instructor.
  9. Repair a broken electrical wire.
