CCT 260 Mobile Phone Examination

Lecture: 1 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the unique skills and methodologies necessary to assist in the investigation and prosecution of cyber crimes involving mobile phones. Topics include the basics of the cellular networks as well as data extraction from GSM, iDEN and CDMA handsets. Upon completion, students should be able to use the course processes and methodologies to obtain forensic evidence from GSM, iDEN and CDMA handsets.

Course is typically offered in Fall.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Provide a brief history of cellular and mobile phone technology.
  2. Identify types of cyber crime data on mobile devices.
  3. Use industry standard mobile phone extraction software.
  4. Examine extracted data from mobile devices with forensically sound processes.
  5. Create a report of findings.
