MEC 161 Manufacturing Processes I

Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course provides the fundamental principles of value-added processing of materials into usable forms for the customer. Topics include material properties and traditional and non-traditional manufacturing processes. Upon completion, students should be able to specify appropriate manufacturing processing for common engineering materials.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Course has transfer restrictions - 20 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Distinguish various primary metal working processes.
  2. Research new manufacturing processes of materials in Class assignment.
  3. Distinguish similarities and differences in processes for forming metallic materials.
  4. Identify similarities and differences in manufacturing processes for composites.
  5. Describe the material identification selection process through written assignments.
