CJC 120 Interviews/Interrogations

Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course covers basic and special techniques employed in criminal justice interviews and interrogations. Emphasis is placed on the interview/interrogation process, including interpretation of verbal and physical behavior and legal perspectives. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct interviews/interrogations in a legal, efficient, and professional manner and obtain the truth from suspects, witnesses, and victims.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Conduct an interview using proper techniques.
  2. Analyze tactics and theories associated with interviewing and interrogation.
  3. Determine the best interviewing and interrogation approach to be utilized by the interviewer/interrogator.
  4. Evaluate an interview or interrogation for indications of deception.
  5. Determine how ethical/unethical decisions will impact police interviews, court cases and the community.
  6. Conduct a statement analysis to questions and styles being used during the interview.
